This is the entire song in MP3 format
Download it as our gift to you, for your personal use, and feel free to share it with others.

Also visit our Past Gigs area to see where we've been!

After helping her team win the Stanley Cup, Hussie Deb got to pose with the trophy. Okay, she IS posing with the real Stanley Cup, but she did NOT assist in any wins. The Cup was on tour through Lincoln to mark the announcement of the City's new Ice Center in late December of 2007. And since Deb and her husband are such Hockey fans (well they ARE), they both had their pictures taken with it. And Barb is pretty sure Deb was told NOT to touch it...and you see how that caution worked!.

Plans for 2008...After the success of our little CD Sampler in 2007, we will be devoting time to completing our first full-length CD this year. Also, for all you folks who asked us to do this...We want to try to put out a Christmas CD in time for the end of the year. Overly ambitious? Perhaps, but we'll give it a shot. We have a couple of songs already recorded, and we've made a list of what we want to include, so we're off to a good start! Stay tuned!

Jan 15, 2008 6:30 - 7:30 pm - Savannah Pines - 3900 Pine Lake Road, Lincoln, NE. Residents & Guests Program. This is also open to the public. It is in their great theatre! As always, it was great fun performing at Savannah Pines. The audience included several guests as well as residents and everyone there, including us, had a great time. We enjoyed chatting with folks afterwards and look forward to seeing how one gentleman does learning to play his new ukulele! Another gentleman had played in dance bands in his younger days, so the nice things he had to say about our music were especially meaningful.

7 - 9 pm - Thé Cup - 643 South 25th - Kristin and her staff have wonderful soups and sandwiches as well as organic tea, coffee & pastries. It's a super performing space, so come early for food, and stay for the music and laughter. Special Note: Don Bennett will be playing for 30 minutes during our break! It may have been cold outside, but the entertainment was hot on the inside.  It was a full house and, as Deb noted, it was enough to warm the cockles of our hearts (and, she added, there's nothing better than hot cockles on a cold night!) We debuted several new songs, including a tribute to Bo Pelini, written by Barb. She continues to deserve her title, "Queen of the Short Shelf-Life Song." In fact, the Bo Pelini song was so popular, we played it by request three times during the performance, a first even for the Hussies! Don Bennett, guitar and banjo player extraordinaire, kept the music going while we took a break. Life doesn't get much better! Special thanks to Kristin & Mike and all the staff at Thé Cup for their "TLC" of the audience and the musicians!
Feb 1, 2008 Barb will be doing the pre-talk for the Natalie MacMaster Concert at the Lied Performing Arts Center in Lincoln, NE. Wow! What a memorable evening. The music was super, and Barb got to help sell CD's for the Natalie MacMaster band! How the heck did that happen? Well, prior to the pre-talk, Barb was chatting with the lovely lady who was "womaning" the CD table. And Janelle said that if she looked really busy at the break to feel free to come help. She did! And Janelle turned out to be none other than young Nathanial Smith's mom! If you don't know who Nat is, he's a cello virtuoso, and just 14 years old. He's touring with the band. Check out the site above. What a hoot!
Feb 14, 2008 7 - 8 pm - Brentwood Estates - 1111 South 70th - Residents and Guests program. A Valentine's Day Show!! What a wonderful Valentine's Day we had at Brentwood Estates! Everyone was so nice to us. We had a packed room, with most of the folks wearing red, and everyone loved the music and the typical Hussie humor. We had so many people come up afterwards to tell us how much they loved the show. We even met a gentleman who had been a musician in the Red Skelton and Ozzie Nelson bands!? Wow - how cool is that!? And the Bo Pelini song continues to be a HUGE hit!
Mar 4, 2008 7 - 8 pm - Legacy Retirement Home - 56th & Pioneers, Lincoln, NE. Residents & Guests Program. We always have great fun at these Legacy gigs, and tonight was no exception. We heard someone going through the hall after their evening meal telling everyone that "The Hussies are Here". We had a very nice crowd, and they really enjoyed singing along with old favorites. We pulled out some new "old" songs for an early St. Pat's songfest, and also used the electronic bagpipes on a couple of crowd pleasers. All in all, a super evening with lots of old friends. And yes, the Bo Pelini song was very well received! Thanks, Carla & Nancy!
Mar 14, 2008

7 - 9 pm - Thé Cup - 643 South 25th - just North of Randolph in the renovated Pepsi Bottling building. Kristin and her staff have wonderful soups and sandwiches as well as organic tea, coffee & pastries. It's a super performing space, so come early for food, and stay for the music.
Schedule Note regarding future performances at Thé Cup that had been on our schedule. We've been playing at Thé Cup since shortly after they opened and we feel privileged that they like our music and the crowds we bring in enough to have booked us last year as often as we wanted.  This year we even booked ahead every other month through the end of the year. HOWEVER, their business has been so successful that they are going in a new direction as of April 1st. They'll be focusing on a growing catering clientele and will be closing each evening at 4 pm (including Fridays) to handle those customers.

So, unless they change their plans, this means no more evening gigs at Thé Cup. It's a loss of a great performance area for not only us, but also for the many other Lincoln musicians who have utilized the space on weekends and through the week. And it's a loss for the fans who come enjoy the music, and also the wonderful food. Kristin and Mike have been good friends to us and our fellow musicians, and we can only hope that they will someday find time to open their doors again to music.

We'll miss playing there.

Whoopee! We're starting our 5th Year as Wee Brazen Hussies!!!

Mar 15, 2008 2:00 - 2:45 pm - Annual St. Patrick's Day Fundraiser at St. Patrick's Church, 6120 Morrill Ave., Lincoln. NE. This is a fantastic way to spend the Saturday before St. Pat's. There will be bands all day, and plenty of homemade corned beef with all the trimmings, as well as plenty of green beer! So come on out and enjoy the music and fun! Plan on spending a few hours at least and bring the family for the great fundraiser! The Ides of March proved to be lucky for all concerned this year. This was SUCH fun!!! A huge hall, packed full of families and friends, food, music, and more...what's not to like! Great job, Rand, on organizing this annual fundraiser. And thanks for inviting us to perform. We're already looking forward to next year!
Mar 17, 2008 6:30 - 7:30 pm - Savannah Pines - 3900 Pine Lake Road, Lincoln, NE. Residents & Guests St. Patrick's Day Program. This is also open to the public. What a perfect way to end our series of St. Pat's Day...performing in the Savannah Pines theatre to a large, enthusiastic crowd. We even were visited by a leprechaun who danced a lively jig to one of our songs. But we weren't fooled...it was Ann Bremer, and she is an AWESOME dancer! Thank you to everyone who made it such a fun evening!
Mar 25, 2008 7 - 8 pm - Legacy Estates - 7200 Van Dorn, Lincoln, NE. Residents & Guests Program. Once again, the Legacy showed us a great audience, and we showed them some great tunes. We were still in our St. Patrick's Day mode for part of the show, and the crowd sure seemed to appreciate the songs and the humor. And yes, the Bo Pelini Song is still a hit! Thank you, Jenny, for always making us feel so welcome, and thank you, residents and guests who make us feel so special. We'll see you all soon!

Celebrate the last party event at PO Pears, and help support the Lincoln Library's Heritage Room

6 - 6:50 pm - Wee-Pre-BEE-Spree!  We'll be doing the Pre-Show for the 24th Annual Heritage Room Spelling Bee at P.O. Pears in Lincoln. SPELLING STARTS at 7 pm. The Spelling Bee benefits the Heritage Room of Nebraska Authors at the Bennett Martin Public Library in downtown Lincoln. WOW, and double WOW! This was our 4th year playing this gig, and it gets better and better. Bob and all the staff at Pears had the kitchen and bar up and running (no small feat after being closed), and it was just like old times at the Bee, except we all knew it was the last one at Pears, so it was tinged with sadness. But the spellers were awesome and the fun crowd was over 200! Channel 10/11 had some great coverage of the Bee, and our Bo Pelini song was again a crowd pleaser. In fact, there were some fun gals at one of the tables who know Mrs. Pelini. They really liked the song and they asked for a copy of the words to show her, and so we were honored and happy to oblige. What fun! (Barb was thrilled to drink the very last bottle of Guinness ever served at PO Pears!)

Deb & Barb warm up the
crowd at the Pre-Bee

Part of the  200 + people at the 24th Annual Spelling Bee

The final two spellers, Barb, emcee, John Baylor, and John's young "helper".
(Julia was the winner!)

PO Pears owner, Bob Jergensen, gets a souvenir Bee for his 20 year's of supporting the Spelling Bee
April 13, 2008 Noon to 2 pm - Brownville, NE - NOTE: Due to illness, we asked friends Bill Behmer and Gwen Meister to fill in for us at this gig. We're so sorry to have to miss this gig, but know Gwen & Bill will do an excellent job for Cinnamon and the folks in Brownville for the opening of the shops.
April 25, 2008 8 - 10 pm - Mo Java Cafe & Roasting Co., 2649 N. 48th, Lincoln, NE. Always fun, and always great food, coffees, teas...and you can celebrate ARBOR DAY with the Hussies! It'll be TREE-mendous! And it WAS! There was even a "tree" that kept trying to grab Barb's guitar through the evening...though to be fair, it was mostly Barb's fault. We had a great crowd of our "regulars" and some new folks, too. All joined in the singing and the fun and it was a typical Hussie evening...lots of music and lots of laughs. Thank you all so much for coming out on a chilly evening to help us fog up the windows at Mo Java. Thanks to Jim Lee for the plastic pig nose and for Barb's new musical instrument...an ocarina!  Yes, she's learning songs already. Deb has even mentioned getting one!
April 27, 2008
Sunday Gig! Odell is just down Hwy 77, and south of Beatrice - 60 miles

1 - 3 pm - Old West Trail Center, Odell, NE - NOTE: The gig is for the Old West Trail Center, which will be open for tours that day, HOWEVER, the gig will take place at the Community Center down the street. It's across from the park and you can't miss it! So take an afternoon jaunt and come on down and see this great little piece of history...and hear us, too! Link to Google Map. Well this was just fantastic. We came into Odell and there was a sign with our name on it! Cool! And Judy and all the folks at the Community Center and the Trail Center were so great. We had a super crowd and Deb's sister Peg, and her husband and family drove up from Kansas to hear us, so it was a very special day in more ways than one. Afterwards, we chatted with a lot of folks then went down the street to tour the Old West Trail Center. And we were SOOOOO impressed. If you want to take a lovely drive and have a great lunch at the bar/cafe there, then see the Old West Trail Center some weekend, it's WELL worth the effort. Check their website above for special events. And the countryside just south of Beatrice on Hwy 112 is gorgeous. Thanks to everyone in Odell for a wonderful time. We hope to see you again!

Odell welcomes the Hussies!

Even the Restroom has a mural at the Trail Center, although Deb & Barb do look a bit overwhelmed at having their photo taken there.

Deb and her sister, Peg and her husband, Doug, and Doug's parents Sheila & Bob...who drove up from Kansas to see us!

At the Trail Center
April 29, 2008 7 - 8 pm - Legacy Terrace - 57th & Fremont, Lincoln, NE. Residents & Guests Program. Another fine evening with the folks at Legacy Terrace. Luckily Barb had her BP Tipper on hand as promised last time we were here...because someone asked! We played several new, old tunes and we had a request for The Scotsman song, and as usual we happily obliged. Thank you all for coming out to fill the dining room with fun and laughter and some great singing from the audience, too.
May 10, 2008 10 am - Annual Mother and Daughter Brunch - Frieden's Lutheran Church, 6th & D Streets, Lincoln, NE. We played here last year and had such a good time, and we're thrilled to be invited back. What a super time at this annual Brunch! And the food...cooked and served by the men...it was delicious. There were over 75 mothers and daughters of all ages, and from all parts of the world, and the newly remodeled church basement was filled with love and laughter on this day before Mothers' Day. Thank you so much for asking us to play again this year and be a part of this special day, and thanks for being such a fun audience...and great singers!
May 13, 2008 6:30 - 7:30 pm The Arbors, 3777 N. 58th, Lincoln, NE - Residents' Program. This was our first time at The Arbors, and we feel so lucky to have been asked. The residents have varying degrees of dementia and Alzheimer's and music is a common language that we were able to share with them. Both Deb and I have had dearly loved relatives with dementia, and this meant so much to us to be able to share an evening of songs and laughter with the folks at The Arbors. It was humbling and inspiring at the same time. In fact, we played a half hour extra, just because we were all having so much fun! We hope to be back soon.
May 18, 2008
Sunday Afternoon
Open House 1 - 4 pm - Hussies play from 2 - 4 pm  New Office location for Barb's Healing Hands Massage. 3633 "O" Street. Come see Barb Frank's new location and have some Hussie fun, too. This was a lovely way to spend the afternoon. Barb's new digs are great and there were plenty of folks taking the tour and stopping a bit to listen to us. And the munchies were tasty, too!
May 20, 2008 6:45 - 7:45 pm - Clark Jeary Retirement Center - 8401 South 33rd, Lincoln, NE.- Residents & Guests Program. We love coming out to Clark Jeary and playing for the folks. We always have a few surprises from the crowd and we love it. Tonight was no exception and a splendid time was had by all.
June 12, 2008 6:15 - 6:45 pm - Van Dorn Villa - 3001 South 51st Street - Lincoln, NE - Residents & Guests Program. This was our first time at the Villa, and we had a ball. They want us back, and we're so pleased. What a fun group of folks, and it's a lovely setting for music in their dining room. The Bo Pelini Song was requested and was...of course, a hit. After we played we packed up and dropped in on Bob (of Bob Stick fame) at Madonna. He's recuperating from some knee surgery and doing really well. So we play a few songs for him! Get well, soon, Bob!
June 14, 2008 8 - 10 pm - Crescent Moon Coffee - 816 "P" Street, Lincoln, NE Haymarket. Come join us in the spacious courtyard for an evening of music, laughter and all around fun! Don Bennett will be opening for us from 7 - 7:45pm. The weather was great and so was the crowd who came out to enjoy the music, the laughter ,and the great CM drinks and food. Thank you for a wonderful evening, and thank you, Don, for warming up the crowd for us with you songs and chat.
June 20, 2008

7 pm - Private Function - WW II Navy Reunion - LST-944 - Hampton Inn, Lincoln, NE  We are thrilled and honored to be providing the entertainment after the reunion dinner! Find out more about LST's in general, and LST-944 in particular.

This was the 13th reunion of this great group of folks (and their families) from all over the U.S. Sadly, it was their last because of the difficulty in traveling for a lot of the veterans. We were recommended to them as entertainment by friend Ann Bremer who is the activities director at Savannah Pines. We prepared some sassy songs of the sea, as well as some of our regular tunes and we were absolutely awed by the response. They made us feel like members of their LST-944 family. A number of the veterans and their families were from southern states, and afterwards one of the wives taught us "In the Pines", by playing Barb's guitar with several joining in on the vocals. We were also given some special Louisiana Easter candy (Elmer's Pecan Egg...a pecan and caramel covered nougat egg & Elmer's Gold Brick Egg...a pecan meltaway) that is only made once a year. It was lovingly carried on ice to the reunion, and YES, it was delicious! This was one of the best gigs we've ever played. Thank you all so much.

After the event, Deb had the terrific idea to donate our fee to the Heartland Honor Flight efforts of the VFW. So that's what we're doing. To find out more about this program, click HERE to read the Journal Star Article.

June 21, 2008 3:30 - 4:15 pm on the MAIN STAGE - Celebrate Lincoln Festival in downtown Lincoln. This was our first time on the main stage and we had a ball. Admittedly, it was a different experience, with the seated crowd under the tent all the way across the street from the stage, but by the time we were halfway into the set, we had folks strolling by the stage and hanging around to hear more. And one fun guy on the other street corner (by the beer tent) who absolutely loved and cheered for anything we did. Thanks to the organizers and to all who came out to enjoy Celebrate Lincoln.

June 22nd thru August 31st

We are limiting bookings to just a couple in July and August (see below)
so we can devote our time to working on our CD's.

Do call us early for fall bookings!

July 2, 2008 6:30 - 7:30 pm - Fairbury, NE - Cedarwood Assisted Living - Resident's Program - We're really looking forward to this special Fourth of July Program! We had a ball here at Cedarwood. It was a new venue for us, and the trip there was truly worth the effort. It's a lovely facility, and the staff and residents were ready for some Hussie tunes and fun. We seemed to go over well with our mix of patriotic and nostalgic songs, as well as some fun newer ones...yes, the Bo Pelini song was a hit.. The drive home was enhanced by one of the most beautiful sunsets we can recall in a long time. We look forward to going back to Cedarwood to see everyone again!
August 2, 2008 7:30 - 8:30 pm - Homestead National Monument Saturday Night Campfire Series, Beatrice, NE - We'll be playing at the Homestead Education Center (the old visitors' center). This is part of their regular summer series and we're really excited to perform. Oh WOW! What a super evening at Homestead. A crowd of 73 (according to the staff) packed the inside performance space, and I think we were all glad to be inside with a heat index well into the 90's. We had folks there almost as soon as we got there at 6:15 pm. There were a number from Odell, NE, where we performed earlier this summer, and it was great to see everyone again. It was a wonderful group of folks who came for the gig and they were ready for some fun. I think we delivered. We know we sure had fun and the crowd was really into the songs and the merriment. We had our new printing of the Sassy Sampler CD's with the Bo Pelini song added and they were popular after the gig. Thanks, Todd at Homestead for giving us the chance to do one of the Campfire shows, and thank you so much, Gene and all the staff for your kindnesses. We hope to see you all again at Homestead.

On the way home, Barb got stopped by the State Patrol but they weren't looking to buy a CD. Deb laughed all the way home and so did Barb. And thanks to the officer for being so nice...we're sure it will be a good story for her to tell, too. You'll have to ask Barb about it...there may even be a song about it someday.

Sept 12, 2008 6:30 - 7 pm and 7:30 - 8 pm  - Private Function for Lincoln Libraries Staff. Farewell dinner for retiring Lincoln City Libraries Director, Carol Connor. We'll be doing two short sets. We are so honored to be asked to perform, and we plan on making this evening very special for Carol. What a hoot this was. We played before dinner, then got to watch the Library Staff do their skits before our next set. They were awesome, and so funny! Thanks for asking us to help with this special evening.
Sept 16, 2008 11:30 - 12:15 or 12:30 - 1:15 pm - Private Luncheon Performance for a Lincoln employer's Employee Appreciation Day. This will be our 4th year for this event, and we love the venue and the chance to play for the employees. As always, this is such fun. The bosses all cook for the employees and there are lots of health and wellness exhibits, as well as several bands with employees in them. Really well done!
Sept 23, 2008 7 - 8 pm - Legacy Retirement Home - 56th & Pioneers, Lincoln, NE. Residents and Guests Program. What a great group of folks at Legacy. Tonight was fun, as always, and we feel right at home with our friends at Legacy! Hope to see you soon!
Sept 24, 2008 6:45 - 7:45 pm - Grand Lodge at the Preserve - 80th & Pioneers, Lincoln, NE. Residents and Guests Program. This was our first time a the Grand Lodge. We played after dinner as part of the special 4th Anniversary celebration of the facility. We had the crowd singing along in no time at all and we think everyone had a great time. We know we did! And they want us back!
Oct 3, 2008

7 - 9 pm - Blue Moon Coffee - South end of the mall at 70th & Vine, Lincoln, NE - We've played at Blue Moon in Hastings, NE, and are really looking forward to checking out the space at the one here in Lincoln. Come out and show them what fun a Hussie Crowd can be!!! Well, I know we'll never forget this gig. Not only is the venue very nice, and the crowd was just super...a nice mix of our "regulars" and some folks we haven't seen in a while, as well as a very nice lady from Germany...but the evening had some added surprises...not all good, but very exciting. After a warm-up at Barb's house for the gig, Barb & Deb were headed to the Blue Moon in separate cars. Barb was stopped for a light on 70th street, near East High, when a guy plowed into the rear of her vehicle doing over 40 miles an hour. He was looking at something his girlfriend was showing him and didn't notice the cars ahead had all stopped. Yikes. Barb's van was pushed into the two cars in front of her by the impact and instruments and equipment were all pushed toward the front of the vehicle. After the pieces stopped flying around and the dust had settled, Barb checked herself and checked the instruments and the equipment. Only the épinette was damaged. So while the police officer wrote the other driver a citation, Don arrived with his pickup, and he and Deb loaded everything and took it to the gig and set it up. Barb's van was towed, so Don came back and got her and the gig went on as scheduled. HUSSIES NEVER QUIT !!!!
Oct 6, 2008 6:10 - 6:50 pm - North Gate Garden Estates, 2425 Folkways Blvd., Lincoln, NE - Residents' Evening Program. We're looking forward to being back at North Gate to see everyone. It's great to come out here and see so many folks who remember us, and whom we remember. They are a really cool group and they really keep us on our toes! Thanks for inviting us back, and we'll see you soon!
Oct 15, 2008 6:30 pm - Frieden's Lutheran Church, 6th & D Streets, Lincoln, NE - WELCA Annual Potluck Supper. We played for these great folks last year and this year at their annual Mother-Daughter Banquet, and we're excited to be coming back for the Annual Potluck Supper at this historic church. This was such fun. All of the folks who had been to our Mother-Daughter Brunch performances the past two years were so excited to have the chance to bring their husbands. And they weren't disappointed, judging from the comments. Deb remarked how pleased we were to be the Frieden's Church "House Band". Even though we're really not, we just love playing for them all...no matter what the occasion.
Oct 16, 2008

7 - 9 pm HUSSIES HOUSE CONCERT - Denice Franke - Texas Singer Songwriter. She's performed previously in Lincoln at a LAFTA house concert, and at the 2007 PlainSong Folk Festival...and each performance adds to her fan base here in the Midwest. This will be a casual concert. Pizza provided. Bring the beverage of your choice.

Denice has long been a force in
Texas music. She’s worked with Nanci Griffith, Eric Taylor, Lyle Lovett and others. Her voice embodies all the richness of the Texas Gulf Coast, and one listen will make you a fan for life.

Her new CD is the best yet!

Sound samples at www.denicefranke.com

Nashville City News Review, Sept 2008"But whether singing in a sparse or extensive setting, Franke’s mellow, intense vocals prove both delightful and compelling on Gulf Coast Blue.”

Billboard Magazine Review, Aug 2008…“Denice Franke writes vivid, compelling musical short stories that adeptly blend empathy and danger on this third albumHer lithe, mesmerizing voice and acoustic guitar are at the heart of each track, and Mark Hallman's sympathetic production advances each song with bent electric guitar notes, percussion jabs or keyboard sounds.”

This was super fun. Denice is a great friend of the Hussies (and Don), and it was super to be able to welcome her back for this first House Concert at the new place. We had 21 folks in attendance, and a great time was had by all. Buddy the Cat made his usual appearance on-stage, but firmly declined Denice's offer to take him to Wisconsin with her by turning around and exiting the room. Thanks to Denice for sending along these photos!

Oct 21, 2008 7 - 8 pm - Legacy Estates - 7200 Van Dorn, Lincoln, NE. Residents & Guests Program. It's just always just a pleasure to be at the Estates. We feel like family there, and tonight was no exception. In fact, even more so because of all the residents' families in attendance. We even had folks come early to watch us warm up. We tried out a couple of new songs as well as some old fav's. And we incorporated one that Denice Franke showed us...a Robert Frost poem set to music. Lovely! Thank you all. We'll look forward to our return visit.
Oct 28, 2008 7 - 8 pm - Legacy Terrace - 57th & Fremont, Lincoln, NE. Residents & Guests Program. It was all Treats, and no Tricks...even though Halloween was just around the corner. We had a ball, and we know the residents did, too, because they told us so. We even had some of the kids from the wait staff come out and sit for a song or two after they finished their shift. We love the Legacy folks and always appreciate all they do to make us feel like family. Thanks you, Tonia, and everyone! We'll see you in a few months!

November Vacation................We're taking the whole month off................Why?
We're Hussies and it's our birthdays - Deb's is on the 4th, and Barb's is on the 18th!
