NEWS! - We've started recording our Christmas
music for a CD. We figured this was a good time,
because we've got it all fresh in our minds from
December. AND, Don Bennett is engineering it for us.
Our first session was about 3 hours and we were able
to get four songs recorded...most with only one or
two takes. "O, Come Little Children", "In the Bleak
Midwinter", Good King Wenceslas", and, "The Virgin
Mary Had One Son". Don will do the mix down and
mastering.
We're also going to have Don do the work on "A
Touch of Hussie", the full length CD we've been
toying with since earlier in 2008. It was just too
hard to do it all ourselves...we're only human! So
our plans are to do two CD's this year, and with
Don's expertise, we know we can. We'll keep you
posted! |

7 - 9 pm - Blue Moon Coffee - South end of
the mall at 70th & Vine, Lincoln, NE What a
great evening. At 7 pm the place was empty! But by
7:20 it was full...it was like the WBH bus pulled up
and everyone got off. Lots of familiar faces and
lots of first-timers who stayed for both sets. We
tried some new songs and Deb even sang Welsh on one!
Thanks for coming out for the fun! |

2 pm -
Welsh Heritage Center - 307 South 7th, Wymore, NE -
Special program for
St. Dwynwen's Day (the Welsh Patron Saint of
Love). OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - A traditional Welsh te bach (tea party)
will
follow our concert. We'll play for an hour. We
had no idea what to expect, but it was GRAND! We
played in the little chapel and it was full of great
singers to lend a voice on some of the songs. Di,
the Welsh Corgi, didn't get to attend the concert,
but he was there to cheer us on as we set up. We
even did a couple of songs in Welsh, thanks to our
tutor, John Good, of Oceans Apart. The Tea
afterwards was absolutely delicious, with homemade
delicacies and some of the best tea around. And we
highly recommend the Center for a fascinating
day-trip from Lincoln. Check their site to see their
hours. VERY worthwhile. Thanks Berwyn, Martha and
everyone for having us come down. Hope to see you
all soon. |

Gracie 1998-2009

Pearce

A Hussie in training |
Announcing...PEARCE
The New House Concert Dog!
With the sad
passing of Gracie, Don & Barb's 10 1/2 year old
Greyhound/Airedale mix,
from bone cancer in early January of 2009, they
have adopted Pearce, an ex-racer who was
in the
Heartland Greyhound Rescue
Adoption Program.
Pearce is her
name (her racing name was Delray Pearce),
and she turned three on January 28. She's very
outgoing and enjoys lots of new situations,
which is really a good thing at Don & Barb's
house.
She has learned to get along with the cats and
seems to be well on her way to becoming a fan
of all types of music, although at first she did
whine a bit during the harmonica tunes.
Most of all, she's looking forward to welcoming everyone at
the next House Concert!

7 - 7:45 pm -
The Landing at Williamsburg Village - 3500
Faulkner Drive, Lincoln, NE. Residents and Guests
Program. This was our first time here and we were
really impressed. We had a full room and the folks
truly seemed to like our performance. I don't think
Deb has ever had so many questions about her
autoharp! What fun! We hope to be back here in the
future. Thanks so much, Kay! |

7 - 8 pm -
Grand Lodge at the Preserve - 80th &
Pioneers, Lincoln, NE. Special Valentine's Day
Program for the Residents and Guests. This was
just wonderful! We had a full house and the crowd
were awesome singers on some of our tunes. They all
said they had great fun and so did we. We even
recorded some of the songs and patter and put them
on our Listen page! |
|
Feb 27, 2009
We'll be doing some LIVE recording here, so come be
a part of the fun!
|
7 - 9 pm -
Bagels & Joe - 4701
Old Cheney - Lincoln, NE - Just south of 48th & Old
Cheney - This will be our first time here, and
they've been wanting to get us booked, so we're
really excited about this venue. Please come out and
enjoy the great food and oh, by the way, we'll have
some "tasty" tunes as well!
While it's not true that the
Hussies always have snow accompanying them when they
play, it certainly seems like it. But that didn't
stop folks from coming out to take part in the fun.
We debuted some St. Pat's tunes and everyone loved
the sing-a-longs. The food was yummy, the atmosphere
warm and toasty and I think we got some good live
stuff recorded. We'll post it on the Listen page
this weekend if we do. Thanks to all who came out to
our first appearance at Bagels & Joe. It was a
success. And thanks to the staff for keeping us
entertained as we packed up after the gig. Hope to
be back later in the year! |

6:45 - 7:45 pm - Clark
Jeary Retirement Center - 8401 South 33rd,
Lincoln, NE.- Residents & Guests Program. As
always, this was just the most fun...thank you Amy and
Beth for getting everything set up, and thank you to all
the residents who came out to join us in the songs and
the laughter. We were told afterwards that we always
make people feel happier with our music, and I don't
think we could aspire to do more. |

We'll have a sound sample or so out later on
the "Listen" page...in the
Live Recording area. |
6 - 8 pm -
Deer Springs
Winery - 16255 Adams Street, Lincoln, NE This is
our first gig here, and we're really excited about it.
Come on out and enjoy the wine and the fun with us.
They offer a picnic basket of bread, sausage,
and cheese for $10 (feeds two), wine tasting (and their
wine is very, very, very good), and of course the music.
Seats about 60, but fills up fast, so be sure to get
there early! Well, who would have thought
that the Hussies have turned into a "bar band", but
apparently that's the case, at least at Deer Springs,
and we LOVE it! We sang our rowdiest St. Pat's sets ever
and the crowd joined in and we all had a ball. Deb
calmed things down for a few minutes in the last set
with her wonderful 2nd rendition of Danny Boy - she
nailed it... (you'll have to ask her about here first
one where she started off in a higher key), and the
folks at Deer Springs said it was their largest crowd
ever, which just blew us away. Many of the folks there
were first-timers for Hussies, and we hope they'll
follow us to Mo Java to hear our full repertoire. But as
to Deer Springs, we're hooked, and we hope to be back
later this summer! Till then, go see Chris Sayre on
April 3rd when he's there! Thanks to all the
folks who run Deer Springs, and make these music events
so much fun! |

2 - 3 pm - Junction City, KS - Good Samaritan Center,
416 West Spruce - Residents and Guests special St.
Patrick's Day Program. This was such fun. We have one of
the songs "live" on our Listen Page
for you. The residents and their families really seemed
to have a great time at the St. Patrick's Day party, and
as usual, so did we. And the drive down to Kansas was
just lovely! Thanks for inviting us! |

7 - 8 pm - Legacy
Estates - 7200 Van Dorn, Lincoln, NE. Residents
& Guests Program. What fun to play a gig here
on St. Pat's Day. The room was filled with folks in
their "green garb", and there were lot's of voices
joining us on the old favorites like "When Irish Eyes
Are Smiling". We were really in the spirit of the day.
Thanks to everyone at the Legacy for always making us
feel so welcome. |

7 - 9 pm - Mo Java Cafe & Roasting Co.,
2649 N. 48th, Lincoln,
NE. Mo Java is known for their fine beverages, as
well as their great food. So come enjoy both, along
with some great music and fun! There was no snow,
which was a nice surprise. The other nice part of
the evening was the absolutely full house that stayed thru the
second set! And the accompanying singing was just incredibly
beautiful by the audience! We dubbed them the Mo
Java Tabernacle Choir, and the accolade is
well-deserved. We were looking forward to posting
their efforts on our rendition of Hard Times by
Stephen Foster, but Barb's H4 recorder apparently
malfunctioned and so we got nothing recorded at all,
the entire evening. NUTS! Hopefully, you'll join us
at Blue Moon Coffee in early May and we'll be sure
to record! Thanks so much for making this evening
special! |

5 - 6 pm - Lyceum - Brownville, NE - Wine, Writers &
Song Festival - We'll be playing at the social
hour before dinner at the Lyceum, to kick off the
three day Festival.
Click for Festival Details
This gig was just plain old FUN!
We arrived at the Lyceum early so we could set up
and then roam around downtown Brownville and take in
all the shops.
First, the town...it's just
lovely. They have lots of wonderful shops...all the
bookstores have their individual charms and each is
worth a stop. The galleries are definitely worthy of
your time, as well. And the second-hand and antique
shops are just full of things you never knew you
needed and once seen, can't do without. Barb has a
gaudy fish pitcher to prove it, and Deb has a really
nifty new necklace. You also have to pay a visit to
the old time store, which stocks just everything!
And of course, go see the Broom Shop. You can watch
brooms being made and pick from a number of styles
and varieties to take home. Barb swears by the
kitchen broom she got a few years ago, and she and
Deb both have brooms from this visit.
We returned to the Lyceum
to warm up and the people started coming in for the
Social Hour. We even had some friends from Lincoln
who made the drive. The crowd of festival go-ers was
very appreciative of the Hussie tunes and humor and
we hope to be invited back to play again. We had
lots of requests for our business cards. After the
gig, we stayed for dinner and WOW! The menu at the
Lyceum is varied, and our friends, Barb, Pat & Steve
from Lincoln joined us for the feast! From grilled
salmon and catfish to herbed chicken to BBQ
ribs...EVERY part of the meal was absolutely
delicious. We highly recommend the Lyceum for a
visit!
Thanks to everyone at the
Festival for making us feel so welcome and
appreciated. We hope to be back in Brownville with
more Hussie Music & Humor! |

Back to work on the CD
today...all went well...better than we'd hoped - We
have five songs done and one mixed down now. Only 12
more to go! |

Where are the Hussies this
summer?
Yes, it's true, we have not booked
as many gigs as usual. Why? We really are working on
the Christmas CD. It's important to get it recorded
and ready to go by fall. But we've booked a public
gig in each of the next three months at some of our
favorite venues, so please mark your schedules and
we really look forward to sharing a fun evening with
you!

Wee Brazen Hussies' Music on a
YouTube Video! What the heck is going on?
Well, Deb discovered someone has used our
recording of Katy Cruel (from a live radio show) on
an animated video that's on YouTube. Apparently they
found it on the web and downloaded it. It's amazing.
They have other videos out there, too.
Unfortunately, they used the name of the
Sampler CD, Wee Bee Hussies, as the credit. Maybe we
can get that changed, but it's still neat. |

7 - 9 pm - Blue Moon Coffee - South end of
the mall at 70th & Vine, Lincoln, NE
Tonight was just awesome. We had a full house
and they were savvy and sassy, just the way we like
our audiences. We debuted a number of songs that
were new to our repertoire and recorded the whole
gig on our H4 Zoom. If you weren't there, you missed
some great fun and good tunes. And we hope to see
you next time. Thanks so much to Brittany at Blue
Moon and to all of you who continue to come out to
support us and our music. It really is YOU who make
us shine. |

2:30 - 3:30 pm Private Garden Party gig for a
long-time Hussie fan and supporter. Well, the
temp was in the mid-70's, the crowd was just the
right size, and we had such fun playing outdoors in
the shade of a huge old oak tree in their backyard.
And did we mention the food? Lithuanian lemon torte;
and loads of tasty items from around the world, and
just the biggest hunk of Feta cheese we'd ever seen.
But you know...nothing was more special than being
asked to help our friend celebrate a wonderful
Sunday with music and laughter. Thanks so much for
including us!
| AND there
were four gals named "Barb" there, including
Hussie Barb! What are the odds? |

Check the "Listen" page on Monday for some sound
samples from our B & J gig. |
7 - 9 pm -
Bagels & Joe
- 4701 Old Cheney - Lincoln, NE - Just south of 48th
& Old Cheney This is our second time at B & J
and we are thrilled because there is NO CHANCE of
snow this time. Hope to see you there for some great
food, music and fun. As promised, there
was no snow, and we had a great time, as always.
We're so glad that Dave at B & J is now doing music
every Friday. We love the venue and the folks who
come out. It was a medium sized crowd, but we were
very pleased because there were lots of great folks
performing around town at the same time. We debuted
a few new songs, including one by Deb and one by
friend, Connie Dover. Oedipus Rex by Mark Graham
went over VERY well and it will be back. And the
Scotsman at the end...well, we've never done it
quite that way before, but it was a hoot! That's all
we're saying. And here's an update on Buddy the
Concert Cat...took him to the vet and what he has
are allergies...NOT cancer. Whew. So, after being
poked and prodded and having samples taken, he's
back home with some meds. |

7 - 9 pm - Blue Moon Coffee - South end of
the mall at 70th & Vine, Lincoln, NE Just
another super fun gig at Blue Moon. We recorded
everyone for our Christmas CD doing the
Gloucestershire Wassail. Made the evening seem
cooler, just singing a Holiday song! Thanks so much
for coming out for the music and laughter! |

Died peacefully after a brief illness |
Buddy the Concert Cat has
joined his dog friends, Sonny & Gracie. Buddy was
approximately 14 years old. Barb found him as a stray
and thinks he was about a year old at that time. He just appeared one day
at the back of her yard. She called to him and he came
running like he'd known her for years. And that's how he
got his name...Buddy. He soon became an indoor cat and
made instant friends with the other cats and dogs.
When the Hussies were formed, and practices became a
weekly thing at Barb's house, Buddy attended each one,
usually curled up in Deb's autoharp case, happily
sleeping to the music. At House Concerts, Buddy took his
place at the feet of the musicians as they played. And
for those that stayed the night, Buddy usually joined
them in the guest room. He has slept with Connie Dover,
Chipper Thompson, Karen Ashbrook, Paul Oorts, and Denice
Franke...Not many cats can claim that!
He even had a song written about his
adventures...the night he slipped through the door,
unseen, and was later chased around the yard by his dog
friends, who didn't recognize him and thought he must be fair game because he was
outside.
Every animal has their own
personality, and Buddy's was large and friendly. He'll
be missed by many. |

Symposium - Lincoln SCC Campus - WBH will play a
luncheon engagement for the Conference members. We did
this a couple of years ago at the SCC Beatrice Campus,
and we're thrilled to be asked back to perform again. They
have this Conference every two years, and we were
surprised how many folks remembered us. It's a great
crowd and they loved our songs...even joined us on
several. Thanks for asking us back! |

Note the 7 pm start time |
7 - 9 pm -
Deer Springs
Winery - 16255 Adams Street, Lincoln, NE (162nd
and Adams) Come join us at the winery for an
evening of great songs and award-winning vintages. And
the food baskets are yummy, too! Okay, July in
Nebraska is supposed to be hot and sticky and windy, but
we certainly lucked out. What a lovely evening in the
grove at Deer Springs. Moderate temps, low humidity and
a light breeze...people at picnic tables and on blankets
in the gentle glow of the fire torches, enjoying fine
wines, sausages and cheeses...and tapping their feet and
nodding heads to our tunes. WOW! Thanks to Don, who was
our sound man for tonight.
And thanks so much to all those
who came out and made the evening such a success for us
and for Jennifer and the great folks at Deer Springs! We
had a BLAST and made lots of new Hussie Friends!
And for Marty (or Martie?) the
Winery Cat, here are the pix of you enjoying some fresh
water from the fountain after the gig! Thanks for being
the Kitty Hostess with the Most-est.
Barb's Guitar Case was just the right height to help
Marty get a drink after the show.

Old Cheney. It was great to be back at Bagels & Joe.
And with all the concerts going on, we were prepared
for a smaller than normal crowd, but were nicely
surprised by the folks who kept coming in and
staying for both sets. Lots of new faces, as well as
our regulars. So we ended up doing quite a few
original tunes, and since we recorded, we'll be
posting them on our Listen page this week! Thanks so
much for coming out! It was huge fun for us, and
from your comments, for you, too. |

House Concert

Billy & John with Pearce |
7 - 9 pm
Tramor - John Good & Billy
Parker. Tramor is the new iteration of John Good
and Billy Parker. Originally John was part of the
duo Oceans Apart. With the demise of that group,
Tramor is alive! John and Billy have previously
collaborated in the multi-musician group Afan. The
Phoenix-based duo will be in the area and have asked
to do a house concert. We said SURE! It will
be at Don & Barb's house. Bring your own beverage of
choice. Mark the date and let us know if you want a
seat reserved Seating is limited to
25! Contact Barb for info.
barb@weebrazenhussies.com
John and Billy were absolutely at the top of
their "game". They've known each other for years and
have played together in Afan, so they have a sense
of timing with each other that only the years can
bring. But this evening was amazing. They rocked the
crowd with their banter and their musicianship. We
can't wait to have them back!

November. She'll be doing a return engagement at a

expenses. If you were at her last gig here, you'll
know how much fun it is. More details later, but
mark the date and let us know if you want a seat
reserved. Bring the beverage of your choice and
sit back and enjoy the music. What a
great evening! Wonderful crowd, great food, and the
music and the stories wove a spell around us all. It
was one of those times where you took in every word
of every song and couldn't wait for more, but yet,
didn't want the evening to end. Thanks, Denice, and
thank you to all who came out to enjoy her songs and
share the wonderful fall weather. Come back soon! |

many people, but we thank you from the bottom of our

and the new CD, "YULE". The "Friday the 13th"
Special Limited Editions of "YULE" sold REALLY well.
Well, actually, folks bought the regular "YULE" and
got the special one for free, but that's another fun
story that made this night special. We even had a
gentleman attend whose name was Mr. Yule! How neat
is that!
As Barb said tonight, many
of you have followed us faithfully the past six
years and you are truly ike family. That made it
even more special this evening, to have everyone
there...all of you who mean so much to us.

Thank you for liking our
music and our schtick, and for supporting us. You
make each gig different, and also make it just plain fun.
See you soon, and enjoy

another great evening of music and fun! This Legacy

It also is the home to some of the folks we've known the
longest at the trio of Legacy Retirement Homes. And they
all came out to welcome in the Christmas Season. One
lady was there visiting her sister and told us that was
the first time she had heard O Come Little Children
since she was a little girl. Thank you so much and Merry
Christmas! |

TMCO Christmas Dinner - Private Function -
Hussies will provide pre-dinner music. You know, we
don't do a lot of gigs where we are just background
music, but this one was sure a lot of fun. Deb's
husband, Steve, works at TMCO, so we were honored to be
asked to play for the pre-dinner festivities. There was
a big crowd at the Top of the Rock downtown and the room
was lovely. We think everyone had a great time, and they
want us back next year! Thanks for asking us!!!! If
you've never heard of TMCO, check their website by
clicking the link...it's super neat!!! |

Sunday afternoonHussies and Snow...together
again! |
3 - 5 pm -
Deer Springs
Winery Holiday Open House- 16255 Adams Street, Lincoln, NE (162nd

the afternoon, and we are playing for part of it. And
yes, we'll probably start a little early, just because
we love Deer Springs! Come out for the fun. Don't let a
little snow keep you home. We'll warm you up with the
music! Wow! What a great
afternoon. The snow was gentle and just picture perfect.
Jennifer and the folks at Deer Springs had a fine spread
of food and chocolates laid out for the Holiday Open
House, and the crowd did not disappoint them. It was
just a wonderful afternoon of Christmas Songs and fun.
And there was even an impromptu birthday party for a
lady named Pat. And we found out it was also St.
Nicholas' birthday. What a coincidence! |

Residents & Guests Program.RESCHEDULED to Dec 15th due to a snowstorm even the
Hussies bowed to! What a way to end our
performances for 2009...back at a Legacy with good
friends. We all sang Silent Night at the end of the
evening, with the last verse sans instruments. And
there were plenty of damp eyes after that, we can
tell you. |

To
everyone who came to
our gigs, who hired us to play, who celebrated our
CD with us, and especially to those who always give
us the love, encouragement, and support that keeps us
going, year after year...you really ARE like family
to us.
Thank you so much!
Merry
Christmas, and a Happy New Year...See you in 2010
Love, from Deb &
